“Minis” group

polo Riding lessons

polo lessons
6-8 year olds

For the younger ones, we offer riding (for polo) lessons, assisted by our instructors and grooms where children receive the basics of riding.

We coach students on basic riding position, how to instruct a horse to walk, stop, trot and canter, building the rider’s confidence gradually.

Children in this group are coached to ride independently from the first lesson.

Children

9-14 YEAR OLDS

45 minutes per session

This group is for children of 9-14 years old.  New riders are assessed by the Instructors for experience and to place them in the appropriate group, by age and riding ability.

In this group we coach our riders from the basics of riding (for polo) and horse safety, to stick and ball and more advanced training for polo.  Children start by learning to ride with no stirrups (on ‘sheepskins’) to develop their balance and grip well with their legs, which is very important in polo.  Children are also taught about horses welfare and how to look after them, complementing their training into the sport.

As students become more confident we coach them into hitting the ball with polo mallets in stick & ball lessons, fun drills and chukkas.  In this age group, children are given the opportunity to play polo mini-competitions at Colts.

We coach Minis riders to walk and trot until they are confident to ride independently.

Middle Arena

This is the latest addition to the riding school.  A large 60mt x 30mt arena, resurfaced and layered for the purpose of riding (for polo) and polo lessons.

In the Middle Arena we deliver lessons to all age groups, with particular focus on the beginner groups who require closer coaching.

We also hold beginner stick and ball practice in this arena, as it is sufficiently spacious to have a good hit around with the polo mallets.

Stables

With capacity to stable up to 20 horses, our stables are standard sized.  The facilities were originally built for racehorses of the Singapore Turf Club.

Paddocks

Horses get to rest and stretch their legs at purpose-built paddocks next to the stables.  We give our horses a well-deserved rest every day after their morning exercise!
